The mission of the Equity, Civil Rights, and Title IX Office (“Equity Office”) is to engage in issues of harassment and discrimination with care and integrity to actively shape a conscientious community where members are valued, empowered, and recognized.
The Equity Office has oversight of the Civil Rights Policy and the Sexual and Interpersonal Misconduct (“SIM”) Policy. This website provides an overview of key aspects of these policies as well as resources for members of the Baylor community should prohibited conduct occur. A PDF version of this guide is also available for download.
Policies and Prohibited Conduct
Civil Rights Policy
The Civil Rights Policy prohibits harassment or discrimination on the basis of Protected Characteristics. Protected Characteristics include race, color, national origin, ethnicity, citizenship, immigration status, disability, sex, age, genetic information or the refusal to submit to a genetic test, past, current, or prospective service in the uniformed military service, or any other characteristic protected under applicable federal, Texas, or local law except as otherwise provided under the Civil Rights Policy.
Sexual and Interpersonal Misconduct Policy
The SIM Policy addresses matters concerning sex based misconduct. The policy prohibits sexual harassment, sexual assault, non-consensual sexual contact, domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, sexual exploitation, and complicity.
Both policies also prohibit retaliation against any individual who engages in Protected Activity.
